Lil Nas X Faces Four Felony Charges After Naked LA Street Incident, Pleads Not Guilty

GRAMMY WINNER LIL NAS X ARRESTED, FACES FELONY CHARGES FOLLOWING EARLY MORNING STUDIO CITY INCIDENT

LOS ANGELES, CA – August 21, 2025 – Chart-topping artist Lil Nas X, born Montero Lamar Hill, was arrested early Thursday morning in Los Angeles following a bizarre incident that saw him allegedly charging at police officers responding to reports of a naked man walking on a busy street. The 26-year-old musician was initially taken to a local hospital for a suspected overdose before being booked into jail, facing a series of increasingly serious charges.

The incident began shortly before 6 a.m. on Ventura Boulevard in the Studio City neighborhood. Los Angeles Police Department officers were dispatched following calls about a man walking in the street. Upon arrival, officers encountered Hill, who allegedly charged at them when confronted. According to initial reports, officers, concerned about a possible overdose, transported the artist to a hospital for evaluation.

From Misdemeanor to Felony Allegations

Following his hospital release, Lil Nas X was taken to the LAPD’s Valley Jail section and booked on suspicion of misdemeanor obstructing an officer. However, the legal proceedings quickly escalated. On Monday, August 25, prosecutors formally charged the artist with four felonies: three counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one count of resisting an executive officer. Authorities stated that at least three officers sustained injuries during the altercation, though specific details of the injuries were not immediately disclosed.

The criminal complaint alleges that for each of the three officers, Hill “did unlawfully use force and violence and inflict an injury” on an officer he “reasonably should have known” was on duty. The charge of resisting an executive officer pertains to his alleged attempts to prevent a fourth officer from performing their duties.

In a court appearance on August 25, Lil Nas X pleaded not guilty to all felony counts. He was released on $75,000 bail, with his release conditional upon attending drug treatment. His next court date is scheduled for September 15, 2025.

Lil Nas X Addresses Ordeal, Family Speaks Out

After spending three days in custody, the artist broke his silence via his Instagram Stories on Tuesday, August 26. In a video message, Lil Nas X referred to himself in the third person, assuring fans that he was alright. “That was terrifying,” he admitted, reflecting on the past few days. “That was a terrifying last four days, but your girl is gonna be alright.”

While reports initially suggested a drug overdose, Lil Nas X’s father, Robert Stafford, reportedly told reporters that his son “absolutely” did not take illegal drugs, though he acknowledged his son was remorseful and in need of help. An attorney for Lil Nas X, Christy O’Connor, emphasized in court that the incident was an “aberration” in the artist’s life, noting his decorated career, which includes two Grammy Awards.

A Trailblazer in Music and Culture

Lil Nas X, whose full name is Montero Lamar Hill, catapulted to global fame with his 2018 country-rap fusion hit “Old Town Road.” The song, which blended genres and was heavily promoted via TikTok, set a record by spending 19 consecutive weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming one of the most significant songs in modern hip hop history. His subsequent music, including “Panini,” “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” and “Industry Baby,” has further solidified his status as a genre-bending artist.

Known for his bold fashion, innovative social media presence, and unapologetic embrace of his identity as an openly gay top artist in the music industry, Lil Nas X has consistently pushed boundaries. This incident follows a period where he also publicly shared experiences with partial facial paralysis earlier in the year, adding another layer to the unfolding stories surrounding the artist.

If convicted of the felony charges, Hill could face significant prison time, potentially up to five years per charge. The legal battle is expected to draw considerable attention, given his prominent position in contemporary popular culture. Fans and industry observers alike will be closely watching the developments in this case, as one of hip-hop’s most distinctive voices navigates these serious allegations.
