August 18, 2025: Major Tour Waves, New Music Drops, and Industry Shakes Mark a Landmark Day in Music News

Vik MehtaVik MehtaAugust 18, 20253 Minutes read

The music world was abuzz on August 18, 2025, as a cascade of significant announcements reshaped tour schedules, unveiled highly anticipated new music, and highlighted major industry shifts. From legendary hip hop acts embarking on anniversary tours to rock titans planning extensive global runs, and acclaimed artists dropping surprise albums, the day proved to be a pivotal moment for fans and industry insiders alike.

Hip Hop Icons Unite for Landmark Tours

This date saw significant developments in the hip hop scene, with veterans Raekwon and Mobb Deep announcing their highly anticipated 30th Anniversary co-headlining tour across North America. Celebrating three decades since the release of their seminal albums, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… and The Infamous, the tour is set to kick off in November 2025, promising a powerful display of enduring artistry and lyrical prowess. Fans can expect to hear timeless hits from two of the genre’s most influential figures, solidifying this as one of the top hip hop stories of the year.

Global Stages Set for Major Rock & Indie Acts

Beyond hip hop, the touring landscape experienced a seismic shift with multiple major artists revealing extensive plans. Linkin Park announced their first Australian tour dates since 2013, generating immense excitement among their dedicated fanbase Down Under. Meanwhile, British alt-rock darlings Wolf Alice unveiled a massive 43-date world tour in support of their new album, The Clearing, set for release later this month. The tour, spanning North America, Europe, and the UK from September through December 2025, marks their most ambitious undertaking to date.

Indie folk stalwarts The Lumineers also detailed their 2025 ‘Automatic World Tour,’ accompanying their recently released fifth album, Automatic. The extensive run will take the band across North America throughout the fall. Adding to the touring buzz, Chance the Rapper announced his “And We Back Tour,” a 15-city North American concert series launching in late September, in promotion of his new album, Star Line. These tour announcements collectively signal a robust live music season ahead, with many venues expecting sold-out crowds.

New Music Dominates Headlines: Albums and Singles Emerge

The day was equally significant for new music releases, with several artists dropping eagerly awaited projects. In a surprise move, the jam band Goose released their second full-length album of 2025, Chain Yer Dragon, on August 14th, following up their April release, Everything Must Go. The new album, celebrated for its world-building component and blend of fan favorites with new tracks, premiered with a performance of their single “Madalena” on The Tonight Show.

Further enhancing the music offerings, rapper JID confirmed his fourth studio album, God Does Like Ugly, would be released on August 8th, following its announcement and pre-order availability. Ghostface Killah continued to build anticipation for his sequel album, Supreme Clientele 2, with the release of his second single, “Metaphysics.” The track previews the album, due August 22nd, and is part of Mass Appeal’s ongoing “Legend Has It” campaign, which also features other hip hop legends.

Festival Circuit Expands and Catalog Sales Spark Industry Talk

Festival season preparations also saw notable updates. Early confirmations for the 2026 edition of the U.K.’s Bloodstock festival were released, giving fans a glimpse into next year’s heavy metal lineup. While specific additions to the Good Things Festival 2025 lineup were also part of the day’s news, further details were anticipated.

In a significant industry development, reports surfaced indicating that the iconic heavy metal band Slipknot is nearing a deal to sell their music catalog for an estimated $120 million. The transaction, reportedly with HarbourView Equity Partners, would encompass ownership rights to their publishing and master recording royalties for their existing work, marking a substantial financial move for the masked quartet and reflecting a broader trend of major catalog sales in the music business.

LL Cool J to Host VMAs, Sinead O’Connor Biopic Gains Momentum

The entertainment world also focused on upcoming major events. Legendary rapper and actor LL Cool J was confirmed as the host for the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, scheduled to take place on September 7th. This marks a significant hosting gig for the multifaceted artist, who is a fixture in music history.

Adding to the cultural conversations, development continued on a biopic chronicling the life of the late Sinead O’Connor. Directed by Josephine Decker and written by Stacey Gregg, the film aims to explore O’Connor’s early life, her meteoric rise in the music industry, and how her talent became intertwined with her activism, bringing her powerful story to a new generation.

Together, these announcements painted a vivid picture of a dynamic music industry, buzzing with upcoming tours, fresh releases, significant business dealings, and compelling biographical projects, setting a high bar for the remainder of 2025 and beyond.
