Lil Nas X Arrested, Hospitalized After Chaotic Los Angeles Street Incident; Faces Four Felony Charges

Daniela BalboaDaniela BalboaAugust 22, 20252 Minutes read

Grammy-winning artist Lil Nas X, whose legal name is Montero Lamar Hill, was arrested and hospitalized in Los Angeles early Thursday morning, August 21, 2025, following a bizarre street incident that saw him walking nearly nude and allegedly confronting law enforcement. The incident has led to him facing four felony charges.

Early Morning Chaos on Ventura Boulevard

The episode began shortly before sunrise, around 5:50 AM, when Los Angeles police received multiple calls reporting a naked man walking in the street on Ventura Boulevard in the Studio City neighborhood. According to initial reports and video footage obtained by TMZ, Lil Nas X, clad only in white underwear and cowboy boots, was seen dancing and interacting erratically with passersby, even placing a traffic cone on his head and speaking about attending a party.

When officers arrived at the scene, they encountered the 26-year-old artist. Authorities claim that Lil Nas X charged at the responding officers, leading to his apprehension and arrest. In the ensuing confrontation, officers allege he struck one of them multiple times.

Hospitalization Amidst Overdose Suspicions

Following his arrest, Lil Nas X was transported to a local hospital due to suspicions of a possible overdose. While authorities indicated a potential drug overdose as the reason for hospitalization, his attorney and father have since refuted claims that illicit substances were involved. His father, Robert Stafford, suggested that the incident may have stemmed from the immense pressure of his son’s career and family responsibilities.

Felony Charges and Court Proceedings

After spending several hours at the hospital, Lil Nas X was transferred to the Van Nuys jail. While initially booked on suspicion of misdemeanor battery on a police officer, charges were later upgraded significantly. On Monday, August 25, 2025, prosecutors officially charged the artist with four felonies: three counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one count of resisting an executive officer. These charges carry potential prison sentences of up to five years if convicted.

During his arraignment on August 25, Lil Nas X pleaded not guilty to all charges. His bail was set at $75,000, with a judge mandating his attendance at four Narcotics Anonymous meetings per week. His next court appearance is scheduled for September 15.

A “Terrifying” Experience and Public Statements

Speaking out for the first time following his release from jail, Lil Nas X posted a video on his Instagram Story on August 26, assuring fans he was recovering. “Your girl is gonna be okay, y’all. Okay? She’s going to be alright; she’s going to be alright,” he stated. “Shit. That was fucking terrifying. That was terrifying. That was a terrifying last four days. But your girl is gonna be alright.” His attorney, Christy O’Connor, described the event as an “absolute aberration” in his life, emphasizing his lack of prior legal issues.

Context: The ‘Dreamboy’ Era

The incident occurs as Lil Nas X prepares for the release of his highly anticipated second studio album, “Dreamboy,” slated for 2025. The album has been teased as a new chapter for the artist, exploring themes of identity and resilience. This follows his groundbreaking success with his debut album “Montero” and hit singles like “Old Town Road,” which redefined the hip hop and pop music landscape. Earlier in 2025, Lil Nas X also shared a health scare involving partial facial paralysis, which he assured fans was improving.

The legal proceedings are ongoing, and the music world watches closely as Lil Nas X navigates this challenging period, aiming to move past this difficult chapter and continue his trajectory as one of music’s most influential top stories.
