Lil Nas X Pleads Not Guilty to Four Felonies After ‘Terrifying’ Naked Arrest; Addresses Fans Amid Legal Storm

Vik MehtaVik MehtaAugust 26, 20253 Minutes read

With the arrest and legal proceedings of Grammy-winning artist Lil Nas X dominating headlines, the “Old Town Road” hitmaker has broken his silence following a tumultuous week. The singer, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, was arrested on August 21, 2025, after being found walking naked on Ventura Boulevard in Studio City, Los Angeles. He has since been charged with four felony counts and has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The Incident and Charges

The events leading to Lil Nas X’s arrest unfolded early on the morning of August 21. Police responded to calls about a naked man on Ventura Boulevard. According to authorities, when officers approached the musician, he allegedly charged at them, resulting in injuries to at least three officers. This confrontation led to his arrest on suspicion of battery and resisting an executive officer.

Following his arrest, Lil Nas X was initially taken to a local hospital due to suspicions of a drug overdose. He was later transferred to the Van Nuys jail, where he spent the weekend. On August 25, 2025, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office formally charged him with four felony counts: three counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one count of resisting an executive officer. If convicted, these charges could carry a potential prison sentence of up to five years for each count, potentially totaling over ten years.

Plea and Bail

During his arraignment on August 25, 2025, Lil Nas X pleaded not guilty to all four felony charges. His bail was set at $75,000. As a condition of his release, a judge ordered him to attend four Narcotics Anonymous meetings per week and to enroll in an outpatient drug program. However, his attorney, Christy O’Connor, has stated that drugs were not a factor in the incident and that the event was an “absolute aberration” in his life. The rapper’s father, Robert Stafford, has also publicly denied that his son was using illegal drugs, stating that he is “very remorseful for what happened” and asking for prayers and support for his son.

Lil Nas X Speaks Out

After a few days of public silence following his arrest and arraignment, Lil Nas X took to his Instagram Stories on August 26, 2025, to address his fans directly. In a selfie video, he assured his supporters that he would be alright, despite admitting the experience was “terrifying.” “Your girl is gonna be okay, y’all,” he said in the video. “That was fucking terrifying. That was terrifying. That was a terrifying last four days but your girl’s gonna be all right.” This marks his first public statement since the incident, signaling his intent to move forward from the ordeal.

Legal Ramifications and Background

The charges against Lil Nas X carry significant legal weight. Battery with injury on a police officer and resisting an executive officer are serious offenses. District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman emphasized the gravity of assaulting law enforcement, stating, “Anyone who assaults law enforcement will face serious consequences, no matter who they are or how famous they may be.”

Lil Nas X rose to global fame with his record-breaking hit song “Old Town Road,” which dominated the music charts for 19 weeks. His career has been marked by genre-bending music and a bold public persona, making him a significant figure in contemporary hip hop. The current legal challenges represent a stark contrast to his public image, prompting discussions about the pressures faced by artists in the spotlight.

Conclusion

As Lil Nas X navigates these serious felony charges, his not-guilty plea and public statement indicate a commitment to addressing the situation head-on. The case is scheduled for a pretrial hearing on September 15, 2025. While the legal battle ahead is significant, the artist’s message to his fans suggests resilience and a determination to overcome this challenging period. The music industry and fans will undoubtedly be watching closely as this story unfolds.
