NLE The Great Unleashes ‘KO’: A Fiery New Single Samples 2Pac and Targets NBA YoungBoy Amidst Hip-Hop’s Billboard Chart Absence

Jin SatoJin SatoOctober 31, 20254 Minutes read

Rapper NLE Choppa, now embracing the moniker NLE The Great, has dropped a hard-hitting new single titled “KO,” a track that immediately ignites conversation by sampling the legendary 2Pac diss track “Hit ‘Em Up” and featuring direct lyrical salvos aimed at fellow artist NBA YoungBoy. This new rap single, NLE The Great KO, arrives at a peculiar moment for mainstream hip-hop, coinciding with the unprecedented absence of any rap songs within the Billboard Hot 100’s Top 40 for the first time in 35 years. The NLE Choppa diss is palpable throughout this new release.

“KO”: A Bold Statement Rooted in Rap Warfare and NLE The Great KO

“KO” is built upon a modernized rendition of Junior M.A.F.I.A.’s “Get Money,” the very beat 2Pac famously flipped for his iconic 1996 diss track “Hit ‘Em Up.” This sonic choice immediately situates the new single within the lineage of aggressive, confrontational music that has long been a cornerstone of hip-hop culture. NLE The Great’s delivery on “KO” is sharp and focused, channeling the raw energy of his predecessors as he targets NBA YoungBoy. Lyrics such as “YoungBoy what, this the big boy league / Put one in the gut under the Jesus piece” leave little room for interpretation, signaling a significant escalation in lyrical warfare between the two artists, making NLE The Great KO a standout track.

Further fueling the tension, the song’s cover art appears to depict NLE The Great holding a severed head resembling NBA YoungBoy, and the accompanying KO music video is rich with symbolism. The artist portrays iconic figures like Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Prince, and Michael Jackson, complete with choreography by Jackson’s longtime collaborator Travis Payne. The visual narrative also includes imagery, such as dreadlocks, that are reminiscent of NBA YoungBoy’s signature style, and the video’s conclusion offers a stark, symbolic image that has fans speculating about a direct response from NBA YoungBoy’s camp following this NLE The Great KO release.

NLE The Great’s Artistic Metamorphosis and the NLE The Great KO Impact

The release of “KO” also signifies a deliberate shift for NLE Choppa, who has been increasingly identifying as “NLE The Great.” This artistic metamorphosis, marked by a new look and a stated intention for greater artistic focus, suggests a desire to mature beyond his earlier, more frenetic output. While NLE Choppa previously explored themes of spirituality and well-being on projects like “From Dark to Light,” “KO” represents a return to more aggressive lyrical content, prompting discussions among fans and critics about the authenticity of his evolution versus strategic marketing for NLE The Great KO.

His manager, who is also his mother, has guided his career from its inception, and NLE The Great has spoken about personal growth, including his time in juvenile detention, influencing his journey. This new era, however, seems to embrace the confrontational spirit of classic hip-hop, blending it with his evolving artistic vision and the impact of NLE The Great KO.

Hip-Hop’s Chart Drought and “KO”s Context

“KO” enters the scene at a time when hip-hop’s presence on mainstream charts is notably diminished. For the week of October 25, 2025, the Billboard Hot 100 did not feature a single rap song in its Top 40, a streak that had held for over 35 years. This hip hop chart absence is partly attributed to Billboard’s updated methodology, which removed long-running hits like Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “Luther,” and the overwhelming chart dominance of pop artists. Despite this shift in mainstream visibility, hip-hop continues to thrive on streaming platforms and in sub-genres, with artists like YoungBoy Never Broke Again still charting respectably, albeit outside the Top 40. The NBA YoungBoy feud highlighted by this track is a significant talking point in the current hip hop landscape.

The commercial landscape has seen hip-hop’s market share decrease from a peak of nearly 30% in 2020 to approximately 24% in 2025, underscoring the changing tides in music consumption. In this environment, a bold release like “KO,” with its high-profile disses and sampling of an iconic diss track, could be seen as an attempt to reclaim attention and assert dominance within the genre’s competitive sphere through the power of NLE The Great KO.

A Powerful New Chapter with NLE The Great KO

With the release of “KO,” NLE The Great has made a definitive statement, blending a reverence for hip-hop’s aggressive past with a forward-looking artistic direction. The single not only showcases his lyrical prowess and willingness to engage in high-profile feuds, including the NBA YoungBoy feud, but also positions him as an artist undergoing a significant transformation. As the industry navigates shifting chart dynamics and evolving fan engagement, “KO” stands as a testament to NLE The Great’s ambition and his impact on contemporary hip-hop music, making NLE The Great KO a track to remember.
