Milwaukee’s Hip-Hop Week MKE 2025 Dazzles with The Clipse, EarthGang; Celebrates Culture and Civic Engagement

Milwaukee, WI – The city of Milwaukee recently concluded its vibrant 7th annual Hip-Hop Week MKE, a week-long celebration from August 17-23, 2025, that masterfully blended top-tier musical performances with crucial civic engagement, educational workshops, and community-focused initiatives. This year’s event, a cornerstone of Milwaukee’s cultural calendar, honored the legacies of local hip-hop figures Antoine “Twan” Mack and Antoine “OG Tweezy” Hogan, while showcasing the enduring power of hip-hop to inspire and unite.

A Tradition of Culture and Community

Hip-Hop Week MKE stands as a pioneering initiative, making Milwaukee the first city in the United States to establish an official week dedicated to celebrating the multifaceted culture of hip-hop. Launched in 2018 through the efforts of Alderman Khalif J. Rainey, the event was conceived as a platform to harness the widespread appeal of hip-hop music and culture to address important urban issues. The core mission is to create a dialogue around civic engagement, voter registration, health and wellness, financial literacy, and fostering pathways to success for the community.

This year’s commemoration continued this tradition, drawing significant attention and participation from residents, artists, and community leaders. The week served as a testament to hip-hop’s roots as a movement born from a desire for positive change and community upliftment, echoing its origins as a peace movement addressing societal challenges.

Honoring Milwaukee’s Legends

The 2025 edition of Hip-Hop Week MKE paid special tribute to Antoine “Twan” Mack and Antoine “OG Tweezy” Hogan, two influential figures within Milwaukee’s hip-hop scene. Twan Mack, recognized as a true local legend, was recently inducted into the Wisconsin Area Music Industry (WAMI) Wall of Honor, celebrating his profound impact through lyrical prowess, community involvement, and dedication to his craft, inspiring countless local artists.

This dedication underscores the event’s commitment to recognizing and celebrating the artists and cultural contributors who have shaped Milwaukee’s vibrant hip-hop landscape, ensuring their legacies continue to resonate.

The Grand Kickoff: The Clipse and EarthGang Take the Stage

The festivities officially commenced on Sunday, August 17th, with a high-energy concert at the iconic The Rave/Eagles Club. The opening night featured a highly anticipated performance by the legendary duo The Clipse, alongside the acclaimed Atlanta-based group EarthGang. The event kicked off with a public news conference hosted by Alderman Russell W. Stamper II, followed by a True Skool hip-hop art showcase, setting an energetic tone for the week ahead.

The concert at The Rave/Eagles Club, located at 2401 W. Wisconsin Ave., was a major draw, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and the music starting at 8:00 p.m. This kickoff concert was just the first taste of the stellar music programming planned throughout the week, highlighting the event’s ability to attract top-tier talent to Milwaukee.

A Week Packed with Music, Education, and Engagement

Hip-Hop Week MKE 2025 offered a diverse array of events catering to various interests within the hip-hop culture and the broader community. Programming was designed to be immersive, incorporating not only music but also opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Musical Showcases and Competitions: Beyond the opening concert, the week featured several music-centric events. True Skool organized daily “DJ Skool” sessions from Monday through Thursday, offering aspiring DJs hands-on experience with rotating instructors. Performance competitions were also a significant highlight, including a beat battle at The Cooperage on Tuesday, featuring guest producer 9th Wonder and AG DA GIFT, which led to a finals round. Wednesday brought another beat battle to The Rave, judged by The Conductor with appearances from Kia Rap Princess and Benny the Butcher, showcasing emerging talent and seasoned artists alike.

Civic Engagement and Health Initiatives: True to its mission, Hip-Hop Week MKE integrated vital community programs. Wellness and mobility were promoted through early morning “Hip-Hop & Ride” community bike rides led by Spinn MKE on Wednesday and Friday. Saturday featured “Hip-Hop & Miles” at Kuumba Juice & Coffee, presented by FEAR MKE, further encouraging active lifestyles and community connection.

Financial Literacy and Workforce Development: Thursday was dedicated to jobs and finances. DirectConnectMKE and ManpowerGroup hosted a job fair from noon to 3 p.m., providing residents with direct access to employment opportunities. This was followed by a workshop titled “Planting Your Financial Seed,” focusing on credit, homeownership, and financial myths, led by Darvin “Coach Darvin” Moore, reinforcing the event’s commitment to economic empowerment.

The week’s programming demonstrated a holistic approach, ensuring that participants could engage with the culture while also accessing resources for personal development and community betterment. The collaborations with organizations like The Rave/Eagles Club, Ald. Stamper’s office, Rainey Day Umbrella Group, Matt Talbot Recovery Services, ManpowerGroup, and DirectConnectMKE were crucial in delivering a comprehensive and impactful series of events.

A Resounding Success for Milwaukee

Hip-Hop Week MKE 2025 has once again proven its significance as a cultural and community force in Milwaukee. By bringing together legendary artists, emerging talent, and essential community services, the event successfully leveraged the universal language of hip-hop to inspire, educate, and empower. The week served as a powerful reminder of the genre’s enduring influence and its capacity to foster dialogue and drive positive change within urban landscapes. The continued success and expansion of Hip-Hop Week MKE solidify its status as a top cultural event, generating important stories of community resilience and artistic expression for Milwaukee.
