Lil Nas X Charged with Four Felonies After Early Morning Studio City Incident

Lil Nas X Faces Felony Charges After Studio City Incident

LOS ANGELES, CA – August 25, 2025 – Grammy-winning artist Lil Nas X, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, is facing four felony charges following an incident early Thursday morning, August 21, 2025, in Studio City, California. The rapper, known for his genre-bending hits and groundbreaking impact on contemporary music, was arrested after officers responded to calls about a person wandering on Ventura Boulevard.

The situation began around 5:50 a.m. when Los Angeles Police Department officers were dispatched to Ventura Boulevard following reports of a nude individual in the street. Upon arrival, officers encountered the 26-year-old artist, who was reportedly found wearing only underwear and cowboy boots. According to law enforcement statements, when officers attempted to make contact, Hill allegedly charged at them, leading to his apprehension.

Following his arrest, Lil Nas X was transported to a local hospital due to concerns over a possible overdose. After being medically cleared, he was taken to the Van Nuys Jail.

Legal Ramifications and Court Proceedings

On Monday, August 25, 2025, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced that Lil Nas X had been charged with four felony counts. These charges include three counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one count of resisting an executive officer.

During his arraignment in Van Nuys, the artist pleaded not guilty to all charges. Initially, bail was set at $300,000, but a judge later reduced it to $75,000, citing Hill’s lack of prior convictions and his classification as a low flight risk. Lil Nas X posted bail and was released, with his next court date scheduled for September 15, 2025. If convicted on all counts, he faces a potential prison sentence of up to five years.

Personal Statements and Family Support

Lil Nas X himself broke his silence on August 26, 2025, posting a video to his Instagram story. He reassured fans, stating, “Your girl is gonna be okay, y’all. That was terrifying. That was a terrifying last four days, but your girl is gonna be all right.”

His father, Robert Stafford, has been a vocal supporter throughout the ordeal. Stafford expressed that his son is “very remorseful for what happened” and is “going to get the help that he needs.” He has also indicated that while the incident was a breakdown, it was not drug-related. Stafford described a visit to his son in jail as emotional, stating, “I went to visit him in jail and as soon as I walked through that door, I couldn’t do anything but cry.” He suggested that the pressures of fame may have contributed to the situation, noting, “We all have breakdowns every now and then, but the difference is, yours played out in the public eye.”

Background and Career

Lil Nas X, born Montero Lamar Hill, first rose to global fame in 2019 with his record-breaking single “Old Town Road,” a unique fusion of country and hip-hop that spent an unprecedented 19 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100. The song’s viral success, particularly on platforms like TikTok, established him as a groundbreaking artist who could effectively leverage social media for widespread impact. This early success was followed by a string of chart-topping hits, including “Industry Baby” and “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” and his debut album “Montero,” which solidified his position as a cultural icon.

Known for his bold artistic expression, willingness to tackle social issues, and open advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community within the hip-hop sphere, Lil Nas X has become a significant voice in contemporary music. Prior to this incident, he had achieved numerous accolades, including multiple Grammy Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and MTV Video Music Awards, underscoring his significant influence and success in the music industry. His career trajectory demonstrates a consistent ability to innovate and capture public attention, making this recent event a stark contrast to his public persona.

As Lil Nas X navigates these legal challenges, the focus remains on his upcoming court date and the potential implications for his career and personal well-being. His father’s support and his own public statements suggest a path toward recovery and addressing the underlying issues, aiming to turn this difficult chapter into a “turning point in his mental stability.”
