D Smoke Ignites the Hip-Hop Scene with “Wake Up Supa” Album and North American Tour

Donovan CarterDonovan CarterAugust 25, 20252 Minutes read

Grammy-nominated artist D Smoke has officially announced the release of his highly anticipated third studio album, “Wake Up Supa,” slated for August 26, 2025. The project, a significant collaboration between WoodWorks Record and Death Row Records, promises a deep dive into themes of awakening and introspection across its 14 meticulously crafted tracks. Esteemed artists such as Snoop Dogg, Lucky Daye, and PJ Morton are featured, contributing to what is being hailed as a pivotal cultural exploration in the music landscape.

“Wake Up Supa” marks a new chapter for D Smoke, showcasing his evolution as a lyricist and storyteller. Known for his seamless blend of English and Spanish rhymes, the Inglewood native delivers heartfelt narratives that resonate with his experiences and worldview. The album reportedly navigates between dream states and reality, offering listeners a profound glimpse into his perspective and self-awareness. Singles like “No Passes,” “Na Na Na,” and “Frequency” have already hinted at the album’s introspective and awakening themes, setting a high bar for the full release.

A Landmark Collaboration with Death Row Records

The partnership with Death Row Records, helmed by Snoop Dogg, is a particularly notable development in D Smoke’s career. This collaboration signifies a full-circle moment, given Snoop Dogg’s foundational role as a judge on Netflix’s “Rhythm + Flow,” the competition that launched D Smoke into the mainstream. His winnings from the show were instrumental in completing his Grammy-nominated debut album, “Black Habits.” This new venture under the iconic Death Row banner underscores D Smoke’s growing influence and solidifies his position within the hip-hop hierarchy.

“Wake Up Supa” Tour and “Mayor of Kingstown” Commitments

Complementing the album’s release, D Smoke is set to embark on an extensive 18-city North America Tour throughout October 2025. This tour provides fans with a direct opportunity to experience his vibrant live performances. Simultaneously, D Smoke will reprise his role as Raphael in the upcoming fourth season of the acclaimed Paramount+ series, “Mayor of Kingstown.” This dual commitment highlights his versatility and continued success across both the music and acting industries, showcasing his expansive reach since his win on “Rhythm + Flow.”

D Smoke’s Musical Journey and Influences

Hailing from Inglewood, California, D Smoke’s musical foundation is deeply rooted in his family’s rich gospel music legacy. His mother, a former backup singer for Tina Turner, instilled in him a profound appreciation for music. He began his musical journey early, forming the songwriting group WoodWorks with his brothers and cousin Tiffany Gouché. His early career saw him writing for established artists before gaining widespread recognition as the winner of “Rhythm + Flow” in 2019. His debut album, “Black Habits,” earned him two Grammy nominations in 2020 for Best New Artist and Best Rap Album, cementing his status as a formidable artist in the contemporary music scene. His prior albums, “Black Habits,” “Inglewood High,” and “War & Wonders,” have been critically acclaimed, showcasing his lyrical prowess and genre-bending sound, which often incorporates conscious hip-hop, Latin fusion, and soul.

“Wake Up Supa” is poised to be another significant milestone in D Smoke’s career, further solidifying his reputation as a thoughtful and impactful artist in the ever-evolving hip-hop and music industries. Fans eagerly await the release and the chance to see him live on tour, continuing to champion his unique artistry and message.
