New York, NY – August 23, 2025 – The landscape of hip hop music remains a dominant force in the industry, with a diverse array of artists consistently capturing the attention of listeners and driving impressive sales figures. This week, the top 5 highest-selling rap albums showcase a compelling mix of recent releases and enduring hits, highlighting the genre’s vibrant and ever-evolving market.

Leading the charge for the week ending August 23, 2025, is Gunna with his latest project, “The Last Wun.” The album has sold a significant 48,000 units, solidifying Gunna’s position as a powerhouse in contemporary rap. This strong performance comes in the third week since the album’s release on August 8, 2025, following its debut at number 3 on the Billboard 200 with 80,000 units. “The Last Wun” also marks Gunna’s final album under his YSL Records contract, adding a layer of narrative depth to its commercial success.

Following closely behind is the highly anticipated collaborative effort from Drake & PARTYNEXTDOOR, “$ome $exy $ongs 4 U.” This project has moved 23,000 units this week. The album, which dropped on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2025, was a significant commercial event, debuting at number one in the U.S. and selling 246,000 album-equivalent units in its first week. Its continued presence on the sales charts speaks to its enduring appeal within the hip hop and R&B spheres.

Securing the third spot is Chance The Rapper with his newly released album, “STAR LINE.” The independent project has garnered 22,000 units sold in its debut week, following its release on August 15, 2025. This release signifies Chance’s return after a six-year hiatus, proving his continued relevance and dedicated fan base within the hip hop conversation. The album is projected to land within the top 20 of the Billboard 200, showcasing a strong independent comeback.

Rounding out the top tier are two formidable artists whose recent works continue to resonate. Tyler, The Creator‘s latest offering, “DON’T TAP THE GLASS,” has achieved 20,000 units sold. Released on July 21, 2025, the album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, celebrated for its dance-infused sound and Tyler’s signature lyrical prowess and production.

Matching Tyler’s sales figure of 20,000 units for the week is Kendrick Lamar‘s critically acclaimed album, “GNX.” Though released in late 2024, “GNX” continues to demonstrate remarkable longevity and impact. It achieved the historic feat of being the first hip-hop album to surpass one million units sold in the United States during 2025. Its sustained presence on the charts, including an impressive 22 weeks at number one on Billboard’s Top Rap Albums chart, underscores its status as a monumental release in the genre.

The Week’s Chart Toppers at a Glance:

1. Gunna – The Last Wun: 48,000 units
2. Drake & PARTYNEXTDOOR – $ome $exy $ongs 4 U: 23,000 units
3. Chance The Rapper – STAR LINE: 22,000 units

A Snapshot of Hip Hop’s Dynamic Market

The consistent performance of these artists underscores the enduring power and commercial viability of hip hop music. Gunna’s “The Last Wun” showcases his ability to connect with audiences through introspective themes and polished production. Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR’s “$ome $exy $ongs 4 U” highlights the potent synergy between two of Canadian music’s biggest stars, blending R&B sensibilities with hip hop’s narrative drive. Chance The Rapper’s “STAR LINE” is a testament to his artistic evolution and the loyalty of his fanbase, marking a significant return to the album format.

Tyler, The Creator’s “DON’T TAP THE GLASS” continues his streak of innovative projects, offering a dance-oriented soundscape that pushes creative boundaries. Meanwhile, Kendrick Lamar’s “GNX” serves as a reminder of his profound lyrical depth and impactful storytelling, resonating long after its initial release and setting new benchmarks for commercial success in the genre.
