Lil Nas X Calls Arrest ‘Terrifying’ Amid Felony Assault Charges Following Naked LA Stroll

Simone AdamsSimone AdamsAugust 26, 20253 Minutes read

LOS ANGELES, CA – Grammy-winning artist Lil Nas X, whose legal name is Montero Lamar Hill, has broken his silence following his recent arrest and subsequent felony charges, describing the experience as “terrifying.” The 26-year-old rapper, known for his genre-bending music and record-breaking hits, was taken into custody after police responded to reports of a naked man walking on Ventura Boulevard in Studio City. He has since pleaded not guilty to four felony counts.

The Incident Unfolds in Studio City

The early morning hours of Thursday, August 21st, saw police dispatched to Ventura Boulevard following multiple calls reporting a naked individual in the street. According to authorities, upon arrival, Lil Nas X was found in this state. The Los Angeles Police Department alleges that when officers attempted to engage with him, the rapper charged at them. This confrontation led to his arrest. Initial reports indicated he was booked on suspicion of misdemeanor obstructing an officer, but charges were later upgraded.

Facing Serious Felony Charges

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has formally charged Lil Nas X with four felony counts: three counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one count of resisting an executive officer. A criminal complaint details that for each of the three officers involved, he “did unlawfully use force and violence and inflict an injury.” These charges carry significant potential penalties, with convictions possibly leading to up to five years in state prison. The incident also reportedly left at least three officers injured.

Lil Nas X’s Statement: A ‘Terrifying’ Experience

In his first public comments since the arrest, Lil Nas X took to his Instagram Stories to address his fans directly. Appearing visibly shaken but reassuring, he described his recent days as “terrifying.” “Your girl is gonna be OK, y’all. OK? She’s going to be all right,” he stated in a video post, his words conveying both distress and resilience. He expressed that the “last four days have been terrifying,” but concluded with a hopeful note that he would indeed “be all right.”

Legal Proceedings and Defense

Following his arrest, Lil Nas X was taken to a local hospital for a potential overdose before being transferred to jail, where he spent three days. He was released on $75,000 bail, with a judge imposing a condition that he must attend regular drug treatment sessions. During his arraignment on August 25th, Lil Nas X pleaded not guilty to all felony charges. His legal team, including attorney Christy O’Connor, has emphasized that the allegations represent an “absolute aberration” in his otherwise “remarkable” life, suggesting this incident is out of character.

A Look Back at a Trailblazing Career

Lil Nas X, born Montero Lamar Hill, burst onto the global music scene with his 2018 country-rap fusion track “Old Town Road.” The song shattered records, spending 19 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 and earning him widespread acclaim, including multiple Grammy Awards. He quickly became a prominent figure in hip-hop and pop music, celebrated not only for his innovative sound but also for his bold artistic expression and advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights. His subsequent hits, such as “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)” and “Industry Baby,” further cemented his status as a top-tier artist, consistently delivering chart-topping stories for his fans.

Family Support and Future Steps

In the wake of the arrest, Lil Nas X’s father, Robert Stafford, has offered his support, describing his son as “very remorseful” and emphasizing that he will “get the help that he needs.” Stafford also denied any involvement of illegal drugs in the incident and stated that his son is “doing great mentally.” Lil Nas X is scheduled to return to court on September 15th for his next pre-trial hearing, where the legal proceedings will continue.

The rapper’s legal team is working to navigate the charges, with his attorney asserting that there is no evidence of illegal drug use. As the case progresses, the music world watches closely, hoping for a resolution that allows the celebrated artist to move past this challenging chapter.
