Lil Nas X Pleads Not Guilty to Four Felonies After ‘Terrifying’ Naked Street Incident and Hospitalization

Jin SatoJin SatoAugust 24, 20253 Minutes read

Global music sensation Lil Nas X, born Montero Lamar Hill, has pleaded not guilty to four felony charges following a highly publicized incident that saw him arrested and hospitalized after being found wandering the streets of Los Angeles in a state of undress. The Grammy Award-winning artist, known for breaking barriers in the hip hop and pop music spheres, described the events as “terrifying” in his first public statement since the August 2025 ordeal.

Incident on Ventura Boulevard

The events began early on Thursday, August 21, 2025, when Los Angeles police responded to calls regarding a naked man walking along Ventura Boulevard in the Studio City neighborhood. According to authorities and witness accounts, the 26-year-old artist was found not fully clothed, with some reports indicating he was in just his underwear and cowboy boots, and others specifying he was completely nude. Video footage circulated online, showing Lil Nas X interacting with passersby, at one point placing a traffic cone on his head and inviting people to a party.

Police allege that when officers arrived to confront him, Lil Nas X “charged at officers.” This alleged physical confrontation led to his arrest. Prior to being taken into custody, officers, suspecting a possible overdose, transported him to a local hospital for treatment, where he remained for several hours.

Felony Charges and Legal Proceedings

Following his medical clearance and subsequent transfer to jail, Lil Nas X was initially booked on suspicion of misdemeanor obstructing an officer. However, the charges were significantly upgraded by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Prosecutors officially charged the artist with four felony counts: three counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one count of resisting an executive officer. The criminal complaint detailed allegations that he “did unlawfully use force and violence and inflict an injury” on multiple officers while they were performing their duties.

During his arraignment on Monday, August 25, 2025, Lil Nas X entered a plea of not guilty to all charges. His bail was set at $75,000, with a court-ordered condition that he attend regular drug treatment sessions. His legal team has maintained that there is no evidence of drug use, with his attorney stating the incident was an “aberration” in his otherwise successful career. His next court appearance is scheduled for September 15.

Artist’s Statement and Family Support

In the days following his release from jail, Lil Nas X broke his silence via his Instagram Stories. Addressing his fans directly, he reassured them of his well-being, stating, “Your girl is gonna be okay, y’all. She’s gonna be alright.” He candidly admitted the experience was “terrifying,” calling the past four days “terrifying.” He also shared that he is “very remorseful for what happened” and will “get the help he needs,” according to comments made by his father, Robert Stafford, who also denied that his son had been using drugs.

Career Context and Impact

Lil Nas X, born in Georgia in 1999, exploded onto the global music scene in 2019 with his genre-bending hit “Old Town Road.” The song, a fusion of country and hip-hop, shattered records, spending an unprecedented 19 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100, and earned him widespread acclaim and accolades, including two Grammy Awards. His subsequent releases, such as “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” and “Industry Baby,” solidified his status as a top artist in contemporary music, known for his bold artistic expression, unique promotional strategies, and advocacy for LGBTQ+ representation within the music industry.

This incident follows a prior health scare in April 2025, when Lil Nas X was hospitalized for sudden partial paralysis on the right side of his face. The recent events add a complex layer to the ongoing stories surrounding the influential artist, raising questions about his well-being and the pressures associated with fame.

Looking Ahead

As Lil Nas X navigates the legal challenges ahead, his career trajectory continues to be closely watched. The artist’s openness about his experiences, coupled with his undeniable talent, ensures his place as a significant figure in popular culture. The outcome of the upcoming court proceedings will undoubtedly shape the next chapter of his journey through the music world.
