Rayna Bass and Selim Bouab Ascend to Co-Presidencies of Hip-Hop, R&B, and Global Music at Atlantic Records

Marcus KingMarcus KingAugust 29, 20254 Minutes read

Atlantic Music Group (AMG) has announced a significant leadership transition, appointing Rayna Bass and Selim Bouab as joint Co-Presidents of Hip-Hop, R&B, and Global Music. The duo, who have also maintained their roles as Co-Presidents of 300 Entertainment, will now oversee a broader spectrum of genres and global music initiatives under the Atlantic Records umbrella. This strategic move, announced by AMG CEO Elliot Grainge, signifies a strengthening of Atlantic’s commitment to these vital music categories.

Lanre Gaba, a long-standing executive at Atlantic Records, will transition into a new advisory capacity as Executive Vice President, Artist Strategy & Development. Gaba, who previously served as President, Black Music for Atlantic Records, brings over two decades of experience to her new role, having been instrumental in the careers of numerous acclaimed artists.

A New Era of Leadership

Rayna Bass and Selim Bouab’s appointment marks a pivotal moment for Atlantic Records, leveraging their proven track record and deep understanding of contemporary music culture. Having been with 300 Entertainment for over a decade, they have been credited with fostering an “artist-centric community” and driving significant cultural impact. Their tenure at 300 saw them champion artists such as Megan Thee Stallion, Young Thug, Gunna, and Mary J. Blige, as well as emerging talents like Hunxho and Jordan Adetunji. The acquisition of 300 Entertainment by Warner Music Group in 2021 further integrated their successful model into a larger global ecosystem.

In a joint statement, Bass and Bouab expressed their enthusiasm for the expanded role, stating, “At 300, we’ve always had an artist-first, independent mindset and an entrepreneurial spirit of hustle, grit, and creativity. We’re looking forward to working closely with Elliot and bringing that same philosophy to our new posts – helping unlock even more potential in a label that’s already full of brilliance, passion, and so much opportunity.” They also affirmed their commitment to serving “the culture that has birthed some of our biggest stars and raised some of our brightest executives.”

Leveraging Proven Expertise

Elliot Grainge lauded Bass and Bouab’s achievements at 300 Entertainment, highlighting their “game-changing work” as key to their suitability for the new positions. “They’re immersed in the tone and taste of what’s next, championing artists with a deep understanding of both how to fuel the creative process and energize fans,” Grainge stated. “Their game-changing work at 300 makes them ideally suited to help take our strategy to exciting new places.”

Bass, who began her career as an intern at Island Def Jam, rose to become 300’s first marketing hire in 2014, eventually becoming SVP of Marketing. She has been recognized on numerous industry lists, including Billboard’s Women in Music and Hip Hop Power Players, and has won multiple marketing awards. Bouab, who joined 300 in 2014, progressed to SVP/Head of A&R, playing a critical role in signing and developing key talent. His expertise in A&R has been central to the label’s success, particularly in identifying and nurturing breakthrough artists.

Lanre Gaba’s Advisory Role

Lanre Gaba’s transition to an advisory role as Executive Vice President, Artist Strategy & Development is a strategic move to harness her extensive experience. Gaba has been a fixture at Atlantic Records for over two decades, contributing to A&R, marketing, artist development, strategic planning, and operational leadership. As the former President of Black Music for Atlantic Records, she has been a champion for a diverse range of artists, including Cardi B and Roddy Ricch. “Lanre brings her wide-ranging knowledge to the AMG center in a new role,” Grainge commented. “Over her many years at Atlantic, she’s been a passionate artists’ advocate, insightful business leader, and team builder, and I know she will continue to carry those values forward in this new position.” Gaba expressed pride in her contributions, stating, “I’m proud of everything we’ve achieved at Atlantic and the way we’ve supported artists and culture. It’s a privilege to continue carrying that mission forward and keep elevating powerful, meaningful music that makes a difference.”

Strategic Direction and Industry Impact

This leadership realignment at Atlantic Music Group is part of a broader strategy by CEO Elliot Grainge to foster an innovative and artist-centric approach. The moves underscore Atlantic’s commitment to strengthening its presence in the global Hip-Hop and R&B markets, genres that continue to dominate popular music stories. By appointing executives with proven success in building artist careers and understanding cultural trends, Atlantic aims to solidify its position as a leading force in the music industry. The integration of 300 Entertainment’s culture and expertise is expected to enhance AMG’s market standing and its ability to adapt to the dynamic landscape of contemporary music. This collective vision aims to unlock new potential and drive significant impact within these key musical genres.

In conclusion, the appointments of Rayna Bass and Selim Bouab signal a new chapter for Atlantic Records’ Hip-Hop, R&B, and Global Music divisions, promising a continuation of their artist-first philosophy and a strategic push for growth and innovation in a competitive industry. The industry will be watching closely as this new leadership steers the label’s direction, aiming to create more impactful music stories and foster the next wave of top-tier talent.
