Joey Bada$$ Ignites Fall with ‘Dark Aura’ Single and Unites with Rapsody & Ab-Soul for Highly Anticipated North American Tour

Aisha MaxwellAisha MaxwellAugust 18, 20254 Minutes read

Brooklyn’s own hip-hop luminary, Joey Bada$$, is set to electrify stages across North America this fall, announcing his immersive “Dark Aura” tour. This highly anticipated series of performances will feature stellar support from two of the genre’s most respected voices: Top Dawg Entertainment’s introspective wordsmith Ab-Soul and Grammy-nominated lyrical powerhouse Rapsody. Coinciding with these exciting tour announcements, Joey Bada$$ has also unveiled a potent new single, the titular “Dark Aura,” setting the stage for his upcoming album, Lonely At The Top.

The “Dark Aura” Tour: A Fall Rendezvous with Hip-Hop Royalty

The “Dark Aura” tour promises an unforgettable journey for hip-hop enthusiasts, kicking off on October 16 in Boston. The extensive run will weave through various key cities before culminating in Philadelphia on November 20. A significant stop on the itinerary will be Joey Bada$$’s vibrant hometown of Brooklyn, New York, on November 19, an event sure to be met with fervent local anticipation.

While specific venues for all dates were initially being finalized, confirmed stops include The Fillmore Detroit on October 22, 2025. The tour’s carefully curated lineup brings together three artists renowned for their lyrical prowess and distinct contributions to contemporary hip-hop music. This triple bill is widely regarded as a significant event, offering fans a rare opportunity to witness such a formidable combination of talent on a single stage.

Unveiling “Dark Aura”: A Statement of Intent

The release of the single “Dark Aura” serves as a powerful precursor to the tour and provides the first official taste of Joey Bada$$’s forthcoming album, Lonely At The Top, which is slated for release on August 29. Produced by longtime collaborator Chuck Strangers, the track is characterized by a sleek, boom-bap beat that invokes a sense of nostalgia while maintaining a modern edge.

Lyrically, “Dark Aura” showcases Joey Bada$$’s signature blend of confidence and precision. He glides across the production, exploring themes of wealth, success, and the relentless grind required to achieve them. The song is infused with a competitive spirit, reflecting Joey Bada$$’s recent engagements in lyrical exchanges earlier in 2025, particularly within the West Coast rap landscape. The track also seems to carry a subtle defiance, with lyrics like, “Independent mindset, we ain’t f*ckin’ with the majors,” hinting at past frictions and album delays with his label, Columbia Records. This makes “Dark Aura” more than just a single; it’s a definitive statement of intent from an artist navigating the complexities of the music industry on his own terms.

A Confluence of Hip-Hop Titans

This tour is particularly exciting due to the caliber of artists sharing the stage. Each performer brings a unique legacy and dedicated fanbase, promising a rich and diverse live music experience.

Joey Bada$$, born Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott, emerged from Brooklyn, New York, as a prodigious talent in the early 2010s. As a co-founder of the influential hip-hop collective Pro Era, he quickly gained acclaim for his sophisticated lyricism and classic East Coast sound, reminiscent of the genre’s golden era. His debut mixtape, 1999, and subsequent albums like B4.Da.$$ (2015) and All-Amerikkkan Bada$$ (2017) garnered critical praise and commercial success, peaking high on the Billboard 200.

Rapsody, born Marlanna Evans, hails from Snow Hill, North Carolina, and has solidified her position as one of the most respected MCs of her generation. Her career began within the collective H2O and later Kooley High before she signed with 9th Wonder’s It’s A Wonderful World Music Group and, subsequently, Jay-Z’s Roc Nation. Known for her intricate storytelling, profound lyricism, and ability to craft compelling narratives, Rapsody’s talent was globally recognized with her Grammy-nominated album Laila’s Wisdom (2017) and her acclaimed third album, Eve (2019). She recently released her fourth studio album, Please Don’t Cry, in May 2024, after a four-year hiatus.

Ab-Soul, whose real name is Herbert Stevens IV, is a Carson, California native and a pivotal member of Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE), home to the acclaimed Black Hippy supergroup alongside Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, and Schoolboy Q. Ab-Soul is celebrated for his deep, often philosophical and introspective lyrics that delve into complex themes of personal struggle and social issues. His albums, including Control System (2012) and These Days… (2014), have received positive reviews and commercial success. He also released his mixtape, Soul Burger, in 2024.

The Synergy on Stage

The combination of Joey Bada$$, Rapsody, and Ab-Soul on a single tour creates a unique synergy that transcends individual fanbases. All three artists are revered for their commitment to lyrical integrity, authentic storytelling, and unwavering dedication to the craft of hip-hop. This isn’t merely a collection of individual sets but an alignment of artistic visions that promises a cohesive and powerful evening of music.

Their shared respect for the art form and a history of collaborative work, such as Rapsody and Ab-Soul’s joint tracks like “2 A.M.” from 2016, further elevate the anticipation for this tour. Even recent playful lyrical exchanges between Joey Bada$$ and Ab-Soul underscore a competitive yet friendly spirit that often defines the best of the genre.

Securing Your Spot on the “Dark Aura” Journey

For fans eager to experience this powerhouse lineup, an artist presale for tickets began on Tuesday, August 19. General ticket sales are expected to follow, and prospective concertgoers are encouraged to secure their spots promptly given the high demand for such a significant tour. Information on ticket purchases is typically available through major ticketing platforms.

The “Dark Aura” tour represents more than just a series of concerts; it’s a cultural event for the hip-hop community. With Joey Bada$$’s new album on the horizon, complemented by the consistent artistry of Rapsody and Ab-Soul, this tour is poised to be one of the most impactful music announcements of the year, solidifying the enduring power and evolution of hip hop.
