Lil Nas X Charged with Four Felonies After Arrest, Hospitalization Following Disturbing LA Street Encounter

Daniela BalboaDaniela BalboaAugust 22, 20253 Minutes read

Grammy-winning artist Lil Nas X, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, was arrested and subsequently hospitalized following a chaotic early morning incident on Ventura Boulevard in Los Angeles on Thursday, August 21, 2025. The disruption led to felony charges, including multiple counts of battery on a police officer and resisting arrest, casting a shadow over the hip-hop sensation’s recent activities.

Discovery on Ventura Boulevard

Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers were dispatched to the Studio City neighborhood shortly before 6 a.m. after receiving reports of a naked man walking along the busy thoroughfare. Upon arrival, officers encountered the 26-year-old artist. While some initial reports and video footage obtained by TMZ showed Lil Nas X in only underwear and cowboy boots, later accounts suggest he was fully naked during parts of the incident. During the encounter, he was reportedly seen engaging in erratic behavior, including placing a traffic cone on his head and interacting with individuals who were recording him.

Altercation with Law Enforcement

According to authorities, when officers approached Lil Nas X, he allegedly charged at them. Some reports indicate that during the confrontation, he physically assaulted officers, with at least three reportedly sustaining injuries. Amidst the altercation, police suspected a possible overdose, prompting them to transport him to a local hospital for evaluation before he was taken into custody.

Hospitalization and Arrest Details

Following his initial hospital visit, Lil Nas X was taken to the Valley jail in Van Nuys. He was initially booked on suspicion of misdemeanor obstructing an officer. However, prosecutors later upgraded the charges to four felonies. These include three counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one felony count of resisting an executive officer, stemming from the alleged physical confrontation with law enforcement.

Legal Battles Begin: Not Guilty Plea and Bail

On Monday, August 25, 2025, Lil Nas X appeared in court for his arraignment. He pleaded not guilty to all felony charges. During the hearing, his bail was reduced from $300,000 to $75,000, with the judge acknowledging his lack of prior convictions and that he was not considered a flight risk. As part of his bail conditions, he has been ordered to attend four Narcotics Anonymous meetings per week. Should he be convicted on all counts, the artist faces a potential prison sentence of up to five years. His next court date is scheduled for September 15.

Lil Nas X and Family Respond

Breaking his silence days after the arrest, Lil Nas X shared a video on his Instagram Stories, describing the experience as “terrifying” but reassuring his fans that he is “going to be all right.” His father, Robert Stafford, also addressed reporters outside the courthouse, stating that his son was “very remorseful” for his actions. Stafford explicitly denied that illegal drugs were involved in the incident and expressed confidence that his son would receive the necessary help.

A Look Back: The Rise of a Hip Hop Icon

Lil Nas X, born Montero Lamar Hill, catapulted to global fame with his 2018 genre-bending single “Old Town Road.” The song, a fusion of country and hip-hop, shattered records, holding the number-one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for a then-unprecedented 19 weeks. His subsequent success with tracks like “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)” and “Industry Baby” solidified his status as a top artist, celebrated for his innovative music and bold embrace of his queer identity. This incident follows an earlier hospitalization in April 2025, where he experienced sudden partial facial paralysis.

The Road Ahead

As Lil Nas X navigates the legal system, the incident has sparked widespread discussion among fans and the music industry alike. While he has maintained his characteristic resilience and offered a message of recovery, the legal proceedings will undoubtedly shape the immediate future of his career. The outcome of his upcoming court dates will determine the long-term consequences of this tumultuous episode. These developing stories highlight the intense scrutiny faced by public figures, even as they manage personal challenges.
